How to Snag a Job at an Auction House

Meet Julia 

Arts Administrator, Real Housewives Enthusiast and Pug Lover.

 

We meet at Julia's Upper East Side Apartment with her associate (read: Pug), Benjamin. 

 

GS: What was your major in college?

J: I was a double major in in art history and communications.

GS: Did you always know you wanted to work at an auction house?

J: No, I actually fell into the Art History major. I had always thought that I would be a Communications major, but my first year seminar when I was a freshmen, "Girls Gone Wild" was about female artists and how they portrayed their females subjects in 17th century European portraiture and I really enjoyed the class. I realized that I always had a passion for design an art and fashion. I think that Art History gives you a very liberal education. It touches on psychology, history, sociology, science... 

GS: Why did you decide you wanted to work at an auction house?

J: Variety. An auction house houses so many different types of art and luxury goods. Now that I work for an auction house I realize that there are so many more departments that I didn't even think about. They also have more programs...
